3PL or specialist logistics: which one does your brand need
A volume 3PL and a specialist furniture logistics partner solve different problems. Here is how to tell which one your stock needs.

A 3PL is built for throughput. Pallets in, cartons out, measured on cost per unit and speed. Specialist furniture logistics is built for care. Fewer items, higher value, more handling per item, measured on condition on arrival.
Both are legitimate. They are just not interchangeable.
Choose volume 3PL when
Your stock is cartoned, uniform and shippable by courier. Damage is an acceptable percentage cost. The customer experience ends when the parcel arrives. Your margin depends on distribution cost.

Choose specialist when
Individual pieces are worth four figures or more. Items are oversized, fragile, crated or uncrated. Delivery includes placement or assembly. The delivery is part of the brand experience, because the person receiving it spent a lot of money and remembers how it arrived.
The hybrid case
Plenty of brands need both. Cartoned accessories through a volume 3PL, feature pieces through a specialist. That is a sensible structure and it stops you paying specialist rates for a cushion.
The question that decides it
What does one damaged item cost you? Not the replacement value, the total. Replacement, freight, the install that got rescheduled, the customer who tells people.
If that number is large, you are buying handling, not freight.
